POSITION OVERVIEW

 

TITLE: School Safety and Security Supervisor

STATUS/FLSA: Full-time / Exempt

PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP: Administrative - Group 4

SUPERVISOR: Executive Director for Safety and Security

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  240 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board. 

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Executive Director for Safety and Security

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership/support with administration and coordination of security and emergency management programs for the school district and its school/facilities.  This position provides leadership during critical incidents and collaborates and coordinates with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and emergency responders. The ultimate goal is to ensure safe and secure schools and workplaces.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIESEssential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.

 

  • Reports to the Executive Director for Safety and Security. The security specialist will work with school and district administrators and members of law enforcement to review and update existing security measures and plans.
  • Fosters a culture of physical security awareness by conducting training sessions and communicating with personnel. Presents updated security policies and procedures to district and building-level administrators.
  • The security supervisor will supervise the individual School Security Officers and private security personnel.
  • Knowledge of district policies, state and federal laws, and school security and safety regulations.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments at each school and administrative location.
  • Conducts and track required safety drills (intruder, fire, severe weather), providing post-drill feedback.
  • Analyzes data to develop safety procedures and protocols.
  • Works with district and school administrators and law enforcement to conduct safety/ security drills.
  • Provides feedback to district and school administrators after drills are conducted.
  • Maintains confidentiality. Advises and makes recommendations to the executive director for safety and security.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/ university preferred.
  • Five years, minimum, in law enforcement, emergency management, fire, EMS, or related security positions. (i.e., military police, shore patrol, etc.) Some supervisory experience is required. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Detailed understanding of best security practices and the laws governing these practices

  • Good organizational skills

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Maintains a professional demeanor in stressful conditions

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient in communication software and application

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally

  • Ability to travel throughout the district’s facilities as required to conduct safety inspections

  • Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Periods of standing and walking
